I took these photos in 2010, the year I decided to quit my job and start my label. At that time I was looping on Tori Amos ‘ album “from the Choirgirl hotel” and Blonde Redhead “Misery is a butterfly” . I love Tori Amos, and I was so envious of Victor and Rolf when Tori Amos performed live for one of their fashion shows. My hair was also dyed in red, but my friend Nicole here in the picture is an authentic Irish beauty. I was in a redhead – black outfits mood, and to shoot in the woods was the sherry on the cake.
Music is so important in my process, it’s the first step in my design process because it sets the tone. I must admit, I take the deciding-on-my- playlist step much more seriously than doing the mood board thing step which I rarely do. I’m not just a visual person like we may think of fashion creative people. I won’t be automatically moved by something I see, or remember everything I saw, and the oversupply of images on social media makes it even harder for images to stick in your mind. Hearing, or tasting or touching is much more “sensual” or can have a stronger impact on what I feel and on my creativity.
